Ambitious racing driver with high quality demands

Torbjörn Bergkvist is a ambitious man, both when it comes to his Porsche, with which he races in the summer, and when it's about photography and film. In Torbjörns video world every single frame is important. Maybe it's because he's been working as a still photographer for more than twenty years, and has trained his eye for pictures. Maybe he's just more careful by nature. We don't know. But we do know that his carefulness combined with an enormous technology interest, supplies a filmmaker, who gives his customers the highest quality possible.

”If I have to choose between quality and speed, I choose quality. I'm more than willing to let things take extra time if the quality is improved”, says Torbjörn and continues:
“What we do is of course governed by our customers desires. The things we do, we do with engagement, quality and experience and then deliver it in whatever format the customer wants; let it be SD, HD or anything else”

For encoding DVD movies Torbjörn always uses BitVice. He thinks BitVice is at it's best when there are a lot of movements and nuances in the movie. However, until quite recently he had never used BitVice DVNC (Digital Video Noise Reduction):
“I was afraid that it would reduce too much noise or take away the “wrong” noise”, he says.
This statement inspired Innobits to, together with Torbjörn, test the DVNC on some of his movies, tests that he is very happy about:
“Now I can get even better quality in my movies - what a finding! It's amazing to know that I've had this tool in my hands all this time…and didn't have the guts to use it.” (Read more about DVNC in the adjacent article)

Continuous improvement

Torbjörn has always worked with photography, first as a still photographer and now, for approximately eight years, also as a videographer. It was a natural development, as several customers wanted him to take on video production as well as still photograhpy assignments. When the same supplier can deliver both still photography and video productions it is more economical for the customer.

Torbjörn sees himself as more or less self-taught, but has naturally taken a lot of courses throughout the years. Continuous improvement is a prerequisite for his business:

“One of the company's objective is that every employee should put at least six hours per week on education and/or development. My present objective is to become one of the first in Sweden on HD video with BlueRay.”
Bergkvist Reklamfoto uses always the latest in technology, i.e. computers, programs and scanners. Significant investments have also been made in equipment needed for larger movie projects; filmcrane, Panther Dolly with track, HMI daylight lampheads etc.

Effective workflow

Besides continuous improvement Torbjörn considers an effective workflow as a must. He achieves that by always encoding his movies before further processing in DVD SP:

”With BitVice the workflow becomes clear because BitVice organizes all included project parts in a folder, which makes it easy to re-create projects. Some other encoders links to “external” files, which may not be available when a project should be updated.”

Like many other customers Torbjörn found BitVice by chance, through a recommendation. He wasn't even specifically looking for an MPEG2-encoder (!) and thinks that Innobits should be better on marketing. Besides better marketing for BitVice he thinks Innobits should develop the following:

  • HD
  • More information about features in the program (by moving the mouse over features and show information)
  • Speed enhancement

“But, as I said, I do not compromise about the quality. A speed enhancement at the expense of quality is not interesting”, finishes Torbjörn.
